What a mobile plan actually costs in NZ, prepay and pay-monthly side by side

Every price here is read from the provider's own plan page, including the resellers that run on Spark, One NZ and 2degrees' networks and usually undercut them. Prepay packs that renew every 28 days are shown with their real monthly equivalent (13 renewals a year, not 12). Plans that need a power or broadband account to buy are marked, not hidden. No commission, no referral links, no sponsored placement.

Reading the $/GB column. It is the monthly-equivalent price divided by full-speed data. Unlimited and "endless" plans show a dash: after the full-speed allowance most of them drop to about 1.2 Mbps, so compare the full-speed gigabytes, and check the hotspot column if you plan to tether a laptop. Thinking of a phone plan instead of home broadband? The dongle vs phone-plan comparison sits on the internet page.

eSIM in New Zealand: which providers offer it

An eSIM is a SIM built into the phone: you download the plan instead of waiting for a card in the post, and most recent phones can hold two numbers. 11 of 15 providers here sell plans on eSIM, from One NZ, 2degrees and Skinny to most of the resellers. Your phone has to support it too (on an iPhone or Android, look for “Add eSIM” in the mobile or SIM settings). Show only plans with eSIM.

How this page is made

Read from the sourceEach row records the provider page it came from and the sentence with the price. Click a row to see it.
Monthly equivalent28-day prepay packs renew 13 times a year. The Price column shows the pack price and its true per-month cost; ranking and $/GB use the monthly figure.
Conditions shown, not hiddenPlans that need a power or broadband account, and current promos, are tagged. Ranking puts unconditional plans first.
RefreshEvery Wednesday each provider's page is re-read and every price checked against it. Nothing changes automatically: a price that is no longer on the page is tagged "not re-confirmed" until a person re-reads it and updates the plan. Missing a provider or plan, or a price that has changed? Tell us; each plan also has a "wrong price?" link when you open it.
